Dena talks about the birth of her son Nicolas in 1996. Despite an uneventful pregnancy and normal genetic/prenatal testing, Dena learned on the day of his birth that he had Down Syndrome. Dena talks about the feelings associated with learning about such a diagnosis and the grief that goes along with realizing your child may not live the life you expected for them. She also talks about the joy that comes with raising a child with Down Syndrome and all of the beautiful things she has learned from Nicholas. With a duel diagnosis of down syndrome and autism Dena gives us a glimpse into her world with Nick and the amazing strength, love and devotion she has for her son.
