Have Movies, Will Game! is an irreverent and whimsical podcast that takes movies new and old off the big screen to a round-table discussion, bringing them to your gaming table. Join Matthew, Dusty, and Nathanael every two weeks (or thereabout) as they break down different movies, share their own takes of what made those movies great (or awful!), and then give you advice on how you can find gaming inspiration from them for use at your tabletop role-playing group. Each episode features a different movie and a new multitude of gaming options! It's a good half-and-half mix of movie trivia, trope breakdowns, and the tabletop gaming advice born from that critique - with a healthy helping of friendly comedy!

Welcome to another listener-voted episode, this time bringing you the winner of our "monster animals" bracket: Snakes on a Plane! (insert that inevitable quote here). This episode, like the movie, is shorter, but still really fun. Despite being an internet meme over-hyped sensation, Snakes lands solidly on the "enjoyable" side of the scale, and we hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed recording. After our thoughts on the movie in the first half, stick around for a breakdown of RPG themes in the second half! Releasing shortly after this episode, we recorded another special bonus "alternate first half" for this one, doing our take on the movie Sharknado . We'll be putting that out as patron-exclusive content on our Patreon Page , so if you want to hear that head on over and check it out. And thanks! You hear that? Do you hear that? Podcast, son. Nothing else in the world sounds like that. I love the sounds of geekdom in my podcatcher. You know, one time we recorded an episode, for 2 hours. When it was all over, I released it, and that's what you're about to hear: APOCALYPSE NOW! We once again welcome you back to our show, with our forty-third episode. Matthew got a bit tired of the "fluff" movies we've been doing, and demanded something gritty, and boy does this movie deliver that. Prepare for a ride into the background of this trauma-heavy film, and stick with us as we ride further down the river on a journey into how you can find gaming inspiration here. Back from our vacation with the winner of our recent Tarantino Poll: nazi-scalping with the Inglourious Basterds! This was our first episode born from our new multi-vote system for our fans and patrons, and we're super happy with the way that poll turned out. As it happens, people like having multiple votes for quality films, who knew? Anyway we'll definitely be doing more of that from now on! This is also our first episode recorded in the new studio. Hopefully all the new sound tweaks turned out fine, but please let us know if you encounter any odd audio issues, thanks! As often happens in these discussions, we're not all aligned on our opinions of the movie, but often that also makes things great. Due to the odd dual-nature story of this somewhat disjointed film, we look at a variety of highly-contracting options in the game talk, giving you a number of very different approaches to play. Matthew had to miss the session due to change-ups at the workplace, so we've brought longtime listener Jerome as a guest to round out the cast. Take us out to the black, dear Serenity, and flash that shiny golden booty at our first foray off the silver screen and onto the tube, with the late great space western Firefly! This time around we're trying something new as a temporary departure from our usual focus, and doing our first-ever jam on a TV show. Firefly is a show that all three of us have a strong fondness for, and we've been talking about taking a look at it for some time now. Yippie ki-yay, monkey fighters! We're back to talk about Dusty's favorite so-called "Christmas movie" DIE HARD. Every year around this time, everyone on the internet gets into arguments about what their favorite Christmas Movie is. Within the first minute of said conversations, someone is going to mention Die Hard, and then the conversation usually explodes (unless everyone just nods along knowingly, as they should be rarely do). Dusty chose the movie this time around, sticking to his guns (ho ho ho!) and calling it solidly. And well frickin' done too, as we had a blast talking about this great "Everyman vs The Terrersts!" flick. Simultaneous to the launch of this episode we've finally decided to put up our brand new Patreon campaign , too. We've been toying with this idea for a few months now, but didn't want to launch until we felt that we had a good chunk of solid content upon which to build our name. We're FINALLY doing Conan the Barbarian, one of the greatest adventure movies of all time. East bound and down, loaded up and truckin', We're gonna do what they say can't be done. We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there. I'm east bound, just watch ol' "Bandit" run. This time we're hauling ass back to 1977 to take a high-speed interstate drive through Smokey and the Bandit . Burt Reynolds left us this year and crossed that great Moustache Bridge in the sky, so we wanted to do a little tribute to him through this podcast. This week we're jamming on one of the greatest western epics of all time: The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly! We're back with another long one, as we had a lot to say about this one. If not the greatest western of all time, it's certainly in the top three, and I'll guarantee you that the other two films in that list would also be Sergio Leone creations. There are a lot of good behind the scenes bits we jam for this one, followed by a wonderful passionate discussion about game options. Also, we apologize for some minor technical annoyances. NPC experimented with an altered mic placement to test out some possible future tweaks to the recording process, but the end result was not as good as expected. Hopefully they were smoothed out enough during editing that you won't notice them! "You people sit tight, hold the fort and keep the home fires burning. And if we're not back by dawn... call the president." When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall dungeon master busts your character's chops, taps the head of your favorite mini up against the battle mat, looks you crooked in the eye, and asks you if you downloaded our latest episode; you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Matthew, Dusty, and Nathanael say at a time like that: "Have you downloaded our latest episode yet, Jack? Yes sir, the podcatcher is on the task." Just remember what we do when the inspiration hits, and the game ideas fall from the screen, and the pillars of Heaven shake their mighty dice bags. Yeah, we just look that big old pile of dice right square in the eye and say, "Give me your best game, pal. We can play it." We wanted to send off the 2017 holiday season with our second bonus episode! Enjoy a multitude of clips and cuts from this year's episodes. We've been sitting on a growing pile of cuts and clips for a while now, and finally decided to release the vast bulk of them as a special holiday gift to everyone who's been listening to us thus far. We've been talking about the idea of putting out some of this as special content for a possible Patreon campaign, but for now, we just want everyone to get a deeper view behind our process, and laugh along with some of our more ridiculous "B-Side" content. Happy holidays to all! Stand honorably with your sword drawn, or die like a dirty dog in the streets. Such is the way of the 13 Assassins. Our second foreign film excursion takes us into the political intrigues of the Tokugawa Shogunate, as we talk about one of N's favorite films of all time: 13 Assassins . We're finally back! Journey with us to monstrous Midian, in a (very late) episode about the Clive Barker cult classic, Nightbreed! Hello again everyone! This episode is crazy late, as we've had an almost comical string of semi-catastrophic technical problems in all of our lives since last time. Thankfully the losses were eventually recovered due to well-planned multi-tier backups, so we're back with a new release for your enjoyment! Originally, we had planned a themed release month for October, and this was one of the episodes recorded for it. Even though Halloween has now come and gone, we still have the spooky spirit over here, and are excited to jam out more thoughts on the topic. Also, due to changes for each of us in personal time and availability, as we announced in the previous soundbyte we are moving to a new bi-weekly release schedule. We've also swapped some of our duties around behind the scenes, with Dusty mostly taking over on post-recording editing work from NPC now that N has practically no free time to even kick back a cool Coors sixteen-ouncer and watch even one measly episode of Mork & Mindy on his beloved channel 57. This episodes marks D's first run at it for the show, so please give him some love as he kicks it off pretty smashingly! Hey there Listeners... wanna play a game? So do we, and it's a good one perfect for the classic Escape Torture Film, Saw! Welcome to the podcast for the first time our friend Jessica! She has actually been working with us behind the scenes for a few weeks now, and even played in our VERY SPECIAL LOST EPISODE last month, but sadly that got lost and we didn't have an opportunity until now to bring her onto the show again. Also, this is our first episode recorded in our brand new studio! We got some new gear and some new digs, and post-recording realize that we need to re-tweak the settings again. please bear with us, the levels are a little off on this one but I think we fixed a lot of the more egregious goofs in editing. Bossa Nova! Chevy Nova? Excellent! Major league butt-kicking is back in town - it's the original Ninja Turtles movie, dude! Definitely our longest episode yet, this time we have two very special guests on the mics with us: it's Basem and Cranny from the Turtle Power Pod! We had a hilariously fun time recording with them, and we're thrilled to release this joint episode. We ended up with too much content, but so much of it was so good that we just couldn't trim it down any further. Expect a LOT of bonus material from this one in the near future - we have enough B-Side content to fill an entire 'nother episode! And that concludes Series 2 of our show. En garde and defend your honor, this time we dive into the 1973 classic, The Three Musketeers! While there have been many adaptations of the classic novel into cinema over the last century, our general consensus is that this one is the most faithful to the source material - and the most entertaining! And we welcome our first ever guest host with this episode, too. Our good gaming friend Scott has a lot to say about this movie and the franchise in general. Also, we're trying a new thing here with this one. General consensus in most feedback has been that people want more of what we have to say, so we decided to make it so. This is our longest episode yet, and future episodes will likely be roughly two hours in length. Please keep the feedback coming, we'd love to hear your thoughts on this format modification. Thanks! Our first bonus episode, featuring outtakes both hilarious and fascinating from our inaugural season! This special bonus episode is a temporary departure from our regular format. We've packed an hour of our outtakes from the just-finished first series of our show into this package. You'll hear goofs, screw-ups, tangential conversations, deeper dives into our personal lives and stories, and additional episode content that was trimmed to keep the episodes within a shorter (relatively) time frame. We have had a lot of feedback from listeners already asking for ways to help donate to help cover our web hosting costs. As Dusty mentions at the beginning of this episode, we're considering putting together a Patreon campaign to make that possible. This episode in particular serves as an example of the kind of bonus material we'll be releasing in the future as extra patron-accessible content, and we've got a lot more ideas on top of that. This campaign is still a project heavily draped across our drawing board, but we'll keep you all posted whenever we launch it. Thanks for the awesome support you're shown us, and we are excited about what the future holds for this show! Also, we meant to launch this last Tuesday, in place of our regularly-scheduled next episode, but we all faced a variety of unavoidable real-life roadblocks that made such a feat impossible. Going forward, our plan is to do up each month as its own series of four or sometimes five episodes. Months with five Tuesdays will very likely have special surprises at the end, so stay tuned for the excitement to come! Got the feeling there are Too Many Secrets in these modern times? Join us as we dive into the crypto-thriller Sneakers! This wraps up our initial "launch batch" of advance recordings. To everyone who has stuck with us this far, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. As mentioned several times before, the first four episodes were meant to prove to ourselves that we could do it, and like we say in this episode: I think we proved that, and more! Starting with episode five, have implemented a significantly upgraded recording setup, and we're thrilled for you to hear the improvements going forward. This time around we experimented with some recording ideas that, quite frankly, we are never doing again. We met for almost six hours, recording most of that time, and ended up with more worthwhile content than we could ever possibly use. If we ever end up releasing "b-side" or bonus material, expect a lot from from episode. The trivia bits alone that were cut from the final release could fill an entire separate episode! The sheer volume of available extra cuts is staggering, and resulted in a post-editing re-evaluation of our production flow. Soon we will be posting links for voting on which of these first four episodes inspire a session of video-recorded tabletop play, to be shared to our Youtube channel and give you another look into how you can take these movies to your own table. So thanks again! We hope you enjoy this episode, and stay tuned for the excitement to come! One shall stand and one shall fall! Taking it back to our nostalgic love of the Transformers. Do you have the Touch? For our third episode, we take on the animated classic, Transformers the Movie . This was a pivotal piece in all three of our lives, so we have a lot to say about it! It's not quite as long as our first episode, but with more than an hour's worth of movie talk and gaming breakdown, we hope you enjoy this trip through our toy-heavy nostalgia. The finest parkour buddy-bro action that film has to offer! What games could best serve this dystopian macho-stunting French romp? In our second episode, we look at one of NPC's favorite films, the French parkour-action thriller District 13 - aka Banlieue 13 , or District B13 . It's an almost non-stop parkour martial arts chase from beginning to end, and perfectly game-able at a role-playing tabletop.
