I attended a talk by Avgi Saketopoulou with Leon S. Brenner regarding her book, Sexuality Beyond Consent: Risk, Race, Traumatophilia (NYU Press, 2023) and was struck immediately by her courage and daringness to take on the much-needed discussion within the field of psychoanalysis.

Continuing the psychoanalytic theory of Jean Laplanche to analyze theatrical and cinematic works such as Slave Play and The Night Porter, Dr. Saketopoulou invites us to revisit the sites of trauma and rub up against it.

Dr. Saketopoulou, together with Dr. Ann Pellegrini, are the recipients of the First Tiresias Paper Award for the paper A Feminine Boy: Normative Investments and Reparative Fantasy at the Intersections of Gender, Race, and Religion, which is now published by The Unconscious in Translation Press, Gender Without Identity.
