this is your chance (23)

Let’s confront the fact that there are parts of recovery that are really hard and awkward to talk about; how can you talk about the fact that I can’t eat pizza like a normal person, I constantly think about feeling fat, the fact that I haven’t gotten my cycle in a long time. These aren’t easy things to talk about, because they have to be approached sensitively, kindly, and truthfully. There are also the parts that are just really discouraging; the parts where you don’t think that you will ever get rid of this cycle of thoughts in your head; the devil might be telling you that you will never be free.

Now I’m definitely not saying that I know how to talk about these issues, but I have been so blessed with a friend who is walking through the darker, harder parts of recovery right now with such grace and truth and love that she just knows how to share about navigating the these harder parts that we often don’t want to confront.

Jamie reminds me that God’s truth always supersedes any of the devil’s lies. In 1 Peter he gives a strong exhortation to the brothers and sisters there, to RESIST the devil’s lies, and this is what Jamie has mirrored by example to me and others through her recovery.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.’ (1 Peter 5:8-11)

Jamie has had significant physical challenges as part of recovery as well as emotional and spiritual struggles, and Jamie came back on the podcast to share:

How She Navigates Those Really Tough Days

How She Finds Joy In the Seemingly ‘Smallest’ Things In Recovery

The Truths She Puts in Front Of Herself on Those Days ‘Recovery’ does not seem worth it. . .

(Jamie is also an AMAZING artist!)

and that isn’t the half of it, but I don’t want to spoil it for you, so here we are. Here’s the talk about recovery that is hard to do but needs to be done. Today, Jamie and I are having that conversation that needs to be had; I hope you get really pumped, inspired, and filled with joy and anticipation about the possibilities in spite of the challenges.

To finish out this podcast, I wanted to say from the ROOFTOPS: RECOVERY IS WORTH IT. God does bring beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise, for the spirit of heaviness.

Though recovery may have SO MANY valleys, each step towards victory is worth it. #recovery…

Let’s finish this out with doing some talk about food freedom and how amazing it is: (I don’t think I’ll ever stop saying that.)

This past year I have realized the benefits of recovery so much more; I have laughed more, eaten more, enjoyed life more, and been amazed at God’s grace more than ever… I’ve also eaten more sweets than ever, and I’m thankful to finish this out with my most favorite recent sweets and sweet moments.

Maybe you can get some baking ‘inspiration!’

This morning I'm thankful for two delicious pieces of #irishsodabread and nut butter and Jam for first breakfast.... second breakfast was had during a run. All the carbs and a bit of fat and some protein seemed to be perfect for a more sensitive stomach.... it's okay to eat intuitively; don't feel like you have to eat something if your body really doesn't want it. Some days bread sounds really good; other days it's something else. But I like just rolling with it. -----------------------------“All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits. Then of course, there are these amazing, furry majestic creatures that God has put on this earth called dogs. They are truly a blessing and a reminder that God takes care of us. He takes care of them, so why would He not care for me?

We have 5 of these furry creatures. Sometimes they are loud. Sometimes they irritate me exceedingly, but at the end of the day, they have taught me so many things about:

Letting Go
Relaxing
Enjoying Each Moment

This girl and this dog. My sister is so forgiving... often times she reminds me of the forgiveness God offers in and through His Son Christ Jesus... yes I am a sinner; yes I am in need of much forgiveness, and because of Jesus we can be forgiven, adopted, and constantly sanctified day by day. Abby I love you. Thanks for showing me the love of Jesus. #love #forgiveness

And taking my eyes out of the mirror so I can make sure that they don’t chew my socks.

I talk to these dogs. They teach me patience. They teach me how I need to grow in my dependence on Jesus, my dependence on God, because they depend on us to take them on walks, feed them, clean up after them, and give them companionship.

Get a dog; if you like dogs (or a cat), because these animals truly take your eyes off of the scale and onto making sure that they don’t eat your spaghetti dinner.

Yes, and they provide our family ENDLESS entertainment. It’s better than a reality show.

Dogs are one of the best friends in recovery along with your AMAZING family… #recovery #dogs…
