In this episode, Dr. Chinchilla Flava Flav and Dr. Chuck D (aka Dr. Bayles and Dr. Phillips) go #beyondFLG with T. Mark Montoya, Ph.D. Dr. Montoya is a self described "recovering political scientist" who works as a tenured associate professor in Ethnic Studies at NAU. His research interests include borderlands pedagogy, citizenship, ethnic studies, DACA, and Hip Hop. Dr. Montoya has a profound knowledge of how we develop inclusive groups that create exclusion which may require some “unlearning” to understand why we fall into that pattern in the first place. Dr. Montoya has a wide range of interests outside of academia as well. One of his interests is in Hip Hop, saying that Chuck D from Public Enemy is his favorite MC of all time. Originally from New Mexico, Dr. Montoya has lived in Flagstaff for quite some time and is a powerful mouthpiece for this area. Music Video that sparked interest in Malcolm X. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ag4c47LzfXs Documentary that inspired Mark as an adolescent.
