In a sport where Sachin Tendulkar is hailed as one of the greatest that ever played the game, author Sumit Chakraberty dares to put forth a contrarian truth: that far from being a match winner, Sachin Tendulkar was in fact a liability for Team India in most instances, especially towards the twilight of his career.
Chakraberty's book is both controversial and divisive. And yet Tendulkar's record bears witness to the simple fact that when examined on a granular level, there are many holes that can be poked into his 24 year long international career.
The aptly named "Master Laster" is a play on words of Tendulkar's reputation for being a "Master Blaster." Chakraberty states that it is primarily due to the longevity of his career that Sachin Tendulkar was able to achieve most of his career milestones, backed by invisible forces (including sponsors, selectors, and captains alike) who were content to look the other way until the law of diminishing returns finally caught up with him.
A great read for all cricket fans, Master Laster is one of those books that one simply cannot put down.
