Bishop John Michael Botean (Romanian Catholic eparchy of St. George in Canton Ohio) issued this Lenten Letter to his people in 2003. The letter was read from the pulpit of all Romanian Catholic Churches on March 9, 2003. This document represents the strongest antiwar stand by any Catholic bishop in the United States (and quite possibly the world) in relation to America's invasion of Iraq. Employing his full apostolic authority, Bishop Botean rules that it is morally impermissible for members of his flock to lend their support to this war effort. The document is avaiable from several sources on the internet. This particular version was posted on the Center for Christian Non-Violence (http://centerforchristiannonviolence.org/downloads/Pastoral_Letter_Iraq_War.pdf) retrieved on 7/28/2008.
