Part 2 of our powerful interview with Katy Schomburg, a true inspiration to all, as she continues her story about what happens after mastectomy surgery and dealing with chemotherapy treatments. Katy uses her diagnosis as an opportunity to create awareness and to raise money through the charity Pink Cans 4 Cancer. WE GOT THIS

Katy talks about:

  • The news about her particular diagnosis of Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and the decision to get chemotherapy treatments
  • How the treatments are going
  • How she got a haircut to prepare for the side effect of hair loss and what she eventually did as a result of that side effect
  • How she tries to stay healthy with young children
  • The incredible gesture that her college lacrosse team from the University of Delaware did to show their support and how it affected her
  • How her community supports her
  • How she spoke to her children about her diagnosis and treatment and how they handled it
  • She touches on her upcoming timeline with final treatments and reconstructive surgery and other possible surgeries in the future
  • She shares her personal lesson of learning to relinquish control at times in order to stay strong
  • She talks about the charity Pink Cans 4 Cancer and how we can all get involved in raising awareness and funds for breast cancer

Between her positivity and finding the silver lining, Katy has changed the perception of what a cancer diagnosis looks like. She is a true inspiration and role model in every way and her attitude and courage are something we could all learn from. Katy's motto of WE GOT THIS has permeated to everyone who knows her.

Pink Cans 4 Cancer is a charity that provides pink trash cans for recyclables. You can get cans for your office, home, school, business, or anywhere that you can monitor the can. This is a great way for students to earn community service hours as well. When it is full, take the recyclables and exchange them for cash, which goes to Pink Cans 4 Cancer, a 501c3. Each can, bottle, and dollar makes a difference.
