In this episode of Check One Two, we shine a spotlight on Iain Berthinussen, or Bertie as he likes to be known. A resilient individual who has triumphed over testicular cancer, embodying the spirit of a rugby player, serving as the head coach for Edinburgh Accies, and leading the charge as the as the Lead community development officer for BATs Rugby.
Bertie took on an incredible challenge to raise awareness and funds for Cahonas, completing a sprint triathlon every day for the initial 20 days of August. This symbolic duration mirrored the time from his diagnosis to the operation. The triathlon included a 750m swim, a 20km cycle, and a 5km run, totalling 15,000m of swimming, 400km of cycling, and 100km of running over the 20 days. Some days involved completing all three disciplines in one go, resembling an actual event, while others were a juggling act between work, family, and commitments. Nevertheless, every day saw Iain swimming 750m, cycling 20km, and running 5km.
From being a testicular cancer survivor to a dedicated rugby figure and community leader, Iain's story mirrors resilience and hope, offering guidance to those navigating similar challenges.
Discover the parallels between Iain's personal journey, commitment to community wellness, and the impactful moments within the realm of Rugby. This episode invites listeners to gain insights into overcoming life's obstacles and emphasises the strength found in pursuing one's dreams—whether through triathlons or building community bonds.
