A "critically urgent" call is being made for a major overhaul of the mental health service for children and young people in this country. The call is coming from the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland, which is seeking "major reform of the management and governance of CAMHS". CAMHS - Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services - provides assessment and treatment for young people up to the age of 18 who are experiencing mental health difficulties The College of Psychiatrists of Ireland has published a policy document outlining changes it wants to see. Dr Maeve Doyle, Executive Member of the Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, is looking for a better internal structure... Eight Clare projects have been awarded a combined total of over €806,000 of a Government fund designed to recognise the contribution of communities hosting International Protection Applicants and Ukrainian Refugees. Among those set to benefit are Bunratty Search and Rescue, which is receiving €86,000, while Tullyvarraga Hall in Shannon has also received €150,000. Upgrades to the Nature Park at the Maid of Erin Roundabout also received €100,000. However, the total figure granted to Clare represents less than 5% of the €22 million announced under the latest round of funding of the Community Recognition Fund. It's claimed that side-by-side construction of new houses must be offered as a more cost effective solution for pyrite affected householders in Clare. Under new changes to the defective concrete concrete block scheme, construction of new dwellings next to the existing house will be offered in limited circumstances. Recent figures show that just 20 pyrite affected homes in Clare have qualified for a full demolition and rebuild. Crusheen-based founder of the Clare Pyrite Action Group, Dr Martina Cleary, says this must be offered to more people.…

Clare's Minister of State expects newly-announced funding to support communities that are hosting refugees long into the future. Eight community projects in Clare are sharing an €806,000 allocation announced under phase three of the Community Recognition Fund 2024. A total of 5,048 Ukrainian Beneficiaries of Temporary Accommodation are currently residing in this county. Herdís Reynisdóttir was born in the US, and spent some time in Sweden before later moving while still very young to her parents home country of Iceland. More often called Dísa, she has worked with Icelandic horses for over two decades. She was educated at Hólar Equine University in Iceland as a riding instructor for all levels and as a horse-trainer. She also has a B.Sc. degree in Agricultural Science, a teachers diploma and is a licensed International Breeding judge for Icelandic horses. Alan Morrissey was joined by four teenagers who have taken on an almighty challenge, all for a good cause. 16 year-old Keane Marquardt, and Seán Judson, Finn Craig and Seán Durcan, all aged 17, are heading from one end of Ireland to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society. The four lads are travelling from Mizen Head to Malin Head, the southernmost to the northernmost point in Ireland, with a journey through Clare along the way. A Minister of State insists the Government is listening to the plight of tourist dependent food-led business in Clare that are dealing with soaring operating costs. Minister for Small Business and Retail Alan Dillon is in Ennis today to attend a meeting of the Mid-West Regional Enterprise Plan (REP) Steering Committee meeting and to engage with local firms. The Government has signalled plans to cut the hospitality VAT rate from 13.5% in Budget 2026, however the Restaraunts Association of Ireland has called for this to be accelerated after 150 food-led business closed between January and March this year alone. The final countdown is on for Together for Hospice, The National Hospice Movement’s 35th annual Hospice Sunflower Days campaign. Fundraising activities will be taking place at shopping centres throughout the Mid-West this Friday and Saturday (6th & 7th June) to raise funds for Milford Care Centre.
