A Clare farming representative insists no other sector would work in the conditions farmers are faced with. The Irish Creamery and Milk Suppliers Assocation has reiterated its call for an All-Sector Farm Summit amid claims the average farmer is working 60 hour weeks for less than the minimum wage. According to Irish Farmers Assocation figures, there are 508,000 acres of farm land in Clare and agriculture contributes €1 billion to the local economy here each year. O'Callaghan's Mills farmer and Chairperson of the Clare branch of the ICMSA Martin McMahon says given the amount of revenue generated by the agriculture industry, farmers shouldn't be struggling.
