When my guest, Stewart Mitchell, first swapped their food service apron for the mantle of vegan activism, they embarked on a quest that would challenge and change them in ways they never expected. This episode captures that transformative journey, inviting listeners to understand veganism not just as a dietary choice, but as a potent form of planetary activism. Through the lens of personal narrative, we unearth the deep connections between our well-being and the broader health of our environment, underscoring the ripple effects of our food choices.

The heartbeat of our conversation thrums with the struggles and triumphs of advocating for the voiceless. We chart the path from a simple love for animals to the front lines of activism, wrestling with societal norms and personal convictions. The power of storytelling emerges as we spotlight "Liberation Summer," a children's book, written by Stewart, set to reshape perspectives in New York City schools, especially within communities of color. It's a tale that exemplifies the inclusive potential of veganism, proving it's accessible and vital for all walks of life.

As we wrap up, our focus shifts to the essential role of self-care in the activism arena. Keeping the flame of passion alight demands that we nurture ourselves with the same fervor we devote to our causes. I share my gratitude for the community we're building, the conversations we're fostering, and the change we're collectively striving towards. Join us on this episode as we lift the veil on the intricate tapestry of veganism, social justice, and the enduring power of compassionate commitment.

Guest Bio: Stewart Mitchell is a Brooklyn-born animal rights/human rights activist. He is a poet, author, and public speaker. Stewart has written two books, Liberation Summer and Kayla The Vegan to help children understand the importance of going vegan and having compassion for animals. Stewart also created voice4change, and all-inclusive, collective liberation advocacy group that uses poetry to convey the message of animal rights and animal liberation. Stewart has won awards with PETA and Woodstock Sanctuary for his continued work towards animal rights and sits on the board for the political advocacy organization Voters For Animal Rights. He currently visits NYC schools as part of “meet the author“ events to speak to young children about animal rights and cruelty-free living.
