Divya and Ravisha get real on a topic that brought them together through their childhood, being children of immigrants. The two of them break down expectations, family pressure, and holding parts of culture while choosing to let go of others.

They reflect on how their journey as children of immigrants developed from starting out in grade school and trying to fit in with the kids around them to breaking cultural barriers in their adult life.

Getting emotional about their upbringing and the sacrifices their parents made, they get vulnerable about how immigrant guilt and anxiety has heavily influenced their life and decisions. This episode is incredibly important to them - as it's a major reason they started this podcast - to create conversations about culture that they wish that they had growing up to normalize the countless struggles that come with being a first-generation immigrant.

In this episode they discuss...

  • What immigrant guilt is
  • Divya vs. Ravisha's experience with immigrant guilt + expectations (Divya being the oldest child, Ravisha being the middle child)
  • Cultural differences between their generation and their parents generation (and how it influenced their well-being)
  • Family expectations + pressures
  • Holding multiple emotions - guilt + gratitude
  • Tools to navigate guilt and other tough emotions
