Libya El-Amin is a television and film editor who has strengthened many projects across an array of genres. Most recently, Libya edited several episodes of Nat Geo & Disney+'s Genius: MLK/X, starring Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. As the daughter of two parents in the Nation of Islam, El-Amin brought a uniquely personal and intimate lens to the project.
Previously, Libya has been celebrated for her work editing comedy series including Peacock's Bust Down, starring Sam Jay and Chris Redd, and dramas such as Hulu's Kindred, based on the novel from Octavia E. Butler. Before making the jump to lead edit, Libya built an impressive array of assistant editor credits, contributing to such projects as HBO's Insecure, FOX's Gotham, and CW's Legacies.
El-Amin began her professional career as a Chemical Engineer. In her free time, she'd splice together her favorite TV shows and her favorite songs, discovering a knack for editing along the way. Already fascinated with the ways that pacing and character development can contribute to a great serialized drama, El-Amin left engineering behind, pursuing her passion for genre and storytelling all the way to a career in post-production. With several television shows under her belt, she recently took on her first feature film project, excited to delve into this new medium.
As her career progresses, El-Amin looks forward to working on more high-concept fantasy and science fiction shows that tap into the love of TV she has held since she was a little girl. Her mentors include Lynne Willingham ACE (Breaking Bad, Ray Donovan), Sarah C. Reeves ACE (Westworld, Star Trek: Picard), and Nena Erb ACE (Insecure, Joy Ride). She resides in Los Angeles.
