Make sure you and your opponent are defining importants words the same way. 2. If you’re unclear about the position the other is taking, repeat it back to them and let them re-phrase. 3. Address your opponent’s first argument, first. It’s probably the one they care most about. 4. When someone explains how something causes a phenomenon, see if there’s could be other factors that explain that same thing. 5. If someone is not hearing you, try to frame your position in a different way. 6. Respect the question and don’t be afraid to ask that it be repeated. 7. If you feel yourself disliking a conclusion, but you acknowledge that all of the premises leading to that conclusion are true, say that you see the validity of that point. 8. If you need time to consider a point, just ask for it. 9. If you said something you regret saying, own that you didn’t like it either. 10.
