In this episode, I discuss various aspects of leading a faithful Christian life, exploring topics such as biblical sexual ethics, the concept of holiness, and the significance of embracing LGBTQ individuals within the Church. My interviewee, Canadian evangelist Guy Hammond, emphasizes the importance of educating Christians on LGBTQ issues and building relationships with individuals holding diverse beliefs or identities.
Before becoming a Christian in 1987, Guy Hammond lived a life of a homosexual for over a decade. Today he is a Canadian evangelist and the Executive Director of Strength in Weakness Ministries, helping thousands of same-sex attracted Christians and their families in over 70 countries worldwide. He has taught over 200,000 people through his workshops and classes, and in 2018 a documentary movie was
made about his life called Finding Guy. Strength in Weakness Ministries is a Christian organization that helps to bridge the gap between the Christian community and the LGBTQ community through awareness, education, and support. You can find more information on his website.
Key Takeaways:
1) God created sex with the knowledge of its fulfilling nature, unaffected by cultural truths tied to specific times, our emotions, or tendencies.
2) Your identity is not defined by your sexual orientation; therefore it doesn't dictate how you choose to live.
3) The opposite to homosexuality isn't heterosexuality but holiness.
4) Embracing God's plan requires faith and trust, regardless of our sexual attractions.
5) Strength in Weakness is dedicated to the LGBTQ community, providing a secure space and strategies for a faithful life aligned with God's plan and soul fulfillment.
6) Our identity is rooted in God, and submitting to His higher plan is a privilege.
7) God's unwavering love allows us to entrust our entire being to Him, finding freedom in being fully known and loved without external holds.
8) Embracing a new identity in Christ, we need not hide or fight against ourselves.
9) God, who is unashamed and unembarrassed, desires greatness for our lives.
10) Despite past church experiences, God's thoughts about us differ. The church is a spiritual hospital with Jesus as the great physician.
11) Education and hospitality in the churches are vital as we coexist with differing views, embracing a focus beyond momentary affairs.
12) Our citizenship is in heaven, urging us to think bigger and align with God's perspective.
13) The misconception that LGBTQ Christians must live celibate, lonely lives is dispelled; God's design allows enjoyment in all aspects of life, requiring honesty and openness.
14) Love does not seek its own. It is selfless and giving. This extends to marriage.
15) Weakness becomes strength when embraced, empowering us to accomplish great things for God.
16) Boasting about weaknesses, as Paul suggests in the Bible, leads to greater strength. Rise above your weaknesses and let them become a catalyst for something extraordinary.
