“If you drop in with a full heart, you are going to get in return something bigger, stronger, and better than you could ever imagine.” Ivana Bajic’s gorgeous interactive multi-media project, Nature of Surf Women, is a real-time testament to her credo, and documentary evidence of the transformational power of surf. Ivana grew up as a girl in Serbia, connected to the magic of nature and water. After building a successful career as a film producer in London and LA, she was drawn back to the enchantment of the elements. On a trip to Costa Rica with her husband, she was seized so completely by the ocean, she found herself barefoot, salty, and suddenly in escrow for a house in the land of Pura Vida! A lifelong athlete, Ivana had only seen surfing as a man’s sport, but the blossoming women’s community in Nosara opened her eyes and heart to its special role for women. I asked her what she thought was in the water that is inspiring this women’s renaissance. You won’t want to miss her answer! Ivana knew she had to make a project about what she was experiencing, to show women surfers as we really are, all ages, all shapes, all skill levels. She collaborated with documentary photographer, Gabriela Téllez, (whom she almost drowned—twice—before figuring out how to safely get her into the water) and together they are bringing through the hearts, souls, voices, and journeys of 33 women surfers. Nature of Surf Women recently published their website with limited edition fine art photography prints (breathtaking!!!) Purchasing these images will help raise funds for the next stage of the project, which is a coffee table book design and publication. To stay connected to this beautiful project:
