No matter how physically fit someone might be, mental health can still be a struggle to maintain. If you or someone you know has ever battled depression or addiction, considered or attempted suicide, you understand why it’s so important to talk about this very real issue. • The stigma surrounding mental health
  • How judgements can impede conversations around mental health
  • Why David felt trapped by his issues and how he manages them now
  • Why David started sharing his story
  • The need for more awareness and education around mental health
  • How you can feel alone even when others feel the same way you do
  • David’s background and the impact of depression
  • The importance of accountability from both sides
  • Advice for how to support people with mental health struggles
  • How it’s easy to give into your feelings and feel safe even when it’s not
  • The importance of finding the balance of what works for you
  • David’s Fundraiser for The American Foundation of Suicide Prevention

David has a wide range of experience including nursing, boxing, online and personal training and NPC competing. He eventually found his passion in the fitness industry and started his company “Cookie Cuts”. David uses his popularity as a fitness trainer to help others struggling with mental illness. He works to create a safe space and educate others on how to address mental health issues.

Powerful Quotes to Remember:

  • It’s sad how society has made people react to their mental health. It’s a disease and should be treated accordingly. Nobody makes people feel bad for getting cancer.
  • When people are real with each other, it’s amazing what you can accomplish.
  • We’re not taught how to be there for people even though people WANT to be there for others.
  • Be present and don’t treat people who suffer differently. They already feel different.
  • Struggle is relative. Just because you can deal with a problem in a healthy way doesn’t mean everyone can.
  • A large portion of being fit and healthy starts with your mind.
  • Love yourself on every step of your journey but make sure you HAVE a journey.
