I'm sure I can speak for most doulas when I say "most dads are not an experienced doulas".
That doesn't mean dad isn't support person number 1. Dad should ALWAYS be support person #1.
Hiring a doula can offer various benefits during childbirth, such as emotional support, advocacy, and knowledge about childbirth techniques. They can help you navigate the process, provide comfort measures, and offer continuous support, which can lead to a more positive birth experience and potentially reduce the need for medical interventions. We can GIVE DAD A MUCH NEEDED BREAK TOO!
We have hormones that help us navigate birth from lack of sleep to not feeling hungry. Dads tend to get exhausted and hungry in longer births and don't feel comfortable just leaving his laboring wife to go eat a sandwich or take a nap.
A Doula will provide space and permission for dad to attend to his basic human needs like going to the bathroom.
Hiring a doula should be a well thought out job as well. Interview them. Get a sense for how they work. What services do they offer besides just doula? How educated are they? This is someone you are bringing into your birth space. You should really love them by the time you go into labor.
As a doula in the Austin Area I recommend a few midwives:
Anya Casteel https://mokoshmidwifery.com/
Sacred Space Collective (Full intigrative womens medicine) https://www.austinhomebirthmidwife.com/
GB Khalsa https://www.gbkhalsa.com/
Home birth Honey
