In this episode of the EntrePastors podcast, Jon talks about how to avoid a subtle and often overlooked form of arrogance that can creep into our hearts and minds as pastors. It’s the notion that the work we do in pastoral ministry is somehow a step or two above everyone else because afterall, it’s ministry…it’s eternal…it’s for the Lord. This flawed mindset is the result of a faulty paradigm that seeks to distinguish between the “sacred” and the “secular” arenas of life. And since our work is “sacred,” our callings are just a little more important than the work everyone else is called to do. It’s this mindset that often poses a real challenge for pastors to engage in marketplace activities because it’s somehow a move away from their “sacred” work. The best way to avoid this trap is to recognize that it’s ALL sacred and that business can be just as valid and effective ministry as church work can be.
