Genesis 4:1-17

Who would you rather be, Cain or Abel?

We are all much more like Cain than Abel.

That story is in the Bible to tell us we’re much more like Cain than Abel…now what are we gonna do about it?

American Indian Cherokee Parable of the 2 wolves

God isn’t true because the Bible said so. The Bible is true because God said so.

Hold my own beliefs up to objective Truth regularly. It’s not about what I want to be true.

Culture seeps in & tries to dilute truth.

I want to believe the God that is, not the God of my imagination.

It’s not true because the Bible said so, the Bible said so because it’s true.

When you’re in a conversation, it’s not a debate.

In debate, the goal is to crush your enemy…not in conversation.

Conversations are much more valuable than debate.

Does God have different principles that He values more?

What makes a great conversation?

We want to move them from feelings to thought to truth.

You can’t have a conversation with someone not willing to be persuaded.

-you have to truly understand their perspective.

If you don’t understand the other person’s perspective, how can you have a legitimate judgment on their stance / opinion / perspective?

It’s weak sauce to have judgments & perspectives that we haven’t thought through. & most people have beliefs & biases that are half-baked.

We have to wrestle with God IOT go deeper with God.

I need to be interested in seeking to understand the truth beauty & goodness of my opponent.

How do I attend better?

How do we teach others to attend better?

You have to be willing to be persuaded IOT think more deeply.

What are you willing to be persuaded about?

What are you not willing to be persuaded about?

Should there be an area I’m not willing to be persuaded about?

What’s at risk with being willing to be persuaded about something?

How does our EQ affect / impact our beliefs?
