The Vitamins and Dietary Supplement industry is South Africa falls under the legislation covering Complementary and Alternative Medicines (CAMS), which is currently regulated under the Medicines and Related Substances Act, 1965 (Act No. 101 of 1965). Since 2013, with amendments made to the legislation, the industry has been moving towards greater regulation, similar to the way pharmaceutical products are regulated. The move towards more regulatory requirements is having important repercussions on this lucrative industry which has until now registered strong double digit growth.
