As humans, we are biologically wired to avoid pain and suffering. And yet, acheiving sustainable happiness, contentment, self-love, acceptance and joy happens when we go through the pain and suffering that we all experience (on different levels), not despite it. Today we journey in conversation with guest and my dear friend, Stacey Camacho, and explore topics that impact us as individuals and as a collective. Stacey helps us to unpack and understand the impacts of colonial and interngenerational trauma, how our culture impacts our self-esteem and self-worth and how we can utilize different therapies and practices to gently create a safe home within ourselves that will trickle outward and positively impact the greater community. We touch upon identifying collective trauma and what we can do about creating safer, healthier and more equitable communities around the world.

Stacey Camacho is a Psychotherapist, Mindfulness Coach and Yoga and Meditation Teacher from Trinidad and Tobago. She holds masters degrees both Psychotherapy and in Buddhist Psychology and Contemplative Psychotherapy. Stacey is the co-founder and director of the NGO’s It’s for the Kids Foundation and Mindwise. She actively pursues advanced training from her mentors such as Gabor Mate (CI), Richard Schwartz (IFS), Peter Levine (SE) Rick Hanson (neuroscience), Diane Poole Heller (Attachment trauma), Dan Siegel (Neuroscience), and Brain Weiss (Regression Therapy), and continues the exploration of her own mind through the practice and further training in mindfulness, meditation, and yoga as well as being in psychotherapy. These have equipped her with cognitive and somatic neuroscience based therapeutic techniques to treat physical, sexual, emotional, and relational trauma, which is usually the root of her clients mental distress so that they may experience emotional and mental freedom. She has also adopted the role as a mental health advocate as she works with her Mindwise team on public education and mentorship. It is her intention that these will be a catalyst for new levels of healing, growth, and transformation throughout her entire community.
