Understand & Heal from Modern Trauma with Dr. Christine Gibson, MD
Manage episode 442331728 series 2807141
For this episode, my guest Dr. Christine Gibson, MD, CCFP is a family doctor and trauma therapist in equity-denied communities, author of The Modern Trauma Toolkit, and goes by “tiktoktraumadoc" on TikTok. In our talk, we explore modern trauma and how to recognize, process and potentially heal from it. Trauma is more pervasive in society than we realize, and our healers—including doctors and therapists—often lack the adequate tools and time to address these deep-seated issues. This is a topic many of us doctors weren’t taught much about in medical school and patients often struggle to articulate their feelings surrounding it. And whether we are doctors or patients, we struggle because of this collective gap in proper knowledge around trauma. Fortunately, Dr. Gibson offers valuable insights to help fill in the gap. We define modern trauma and why it has become so problematic, how we can heal and move forward from trauma, the difference between resilience and post-traumatic growth, and so much more. While we still have a long way to go in understand trauma, healing is possible for anyone willing to seek it. I hope that our discussion helps you to better understand modern trauma and to more effectively heal from your own trauma wounds.
