In this episode of 'Grief is the New Normal,' Dr. Heather Taylor, a licensed psychologist, welcomes Stephanie Power, a former student, and now a doctoral candidate specializing in boundaries. Stephanie shares her journey into mental health, driven by her personal healing experiences and passion for supporting first responders. The discussion delves into the critical role of boundaries in managing grief and loss, offering insights on preserving energy and capacity during challenging times as well as emphasizing the importance of being kind to oneself. The episode concludes with Stephanie's personal anticipatory grief story and her dissertation on the benefits of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for law enforcement officers.

Stephanie Power, LMHCA is a 4th year doctoral student from Northwest University's Counseling Psychology program (PsyD). During her schooling, she has completed my master's in counseling psychology and has her Mental Health Counselor Associate license. She works with adults who experience struggles with stress, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and grief and loss. She has a passion for and experience working with first responders and public safety personnel. Her research efforts and dissertation centers on supporting Law Enforcement Officers' mental health and well-being. She utilizes EMDR, CBT, CPT, DBT, BSFT and EFT in her approach to treating trauma and employs a person-centered strength-based lens to case-conceptualize and develop treatment plans.
