Day Camp
Manage episode 234480288 series 2443753
"Camp is...the love of the exaggerated, the 'off,' of things-being-what-they-are-not." ~ Susan Sontag
On this episode, we bring you our review of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's latest Costume Institute exhibition, "Camp: Notes on Fashion." Drawing inspiration from Susan Sontag's seminal 1964 essay, "Notes on Camp," the exhibition explored the ways in which designers have employed camp sensibility in the creation of their haute couture garments & accessories. While it is the first Costume Institute exhibition to explicitly center homosexuality in the presentation of the works, it is a dated conservation that generally excludes the contributions of Queer POCs. Our discussion of the exhibition focuses on this erasure, our favorite pieces, and a lesson in etiquette for museum visitors.
We also discuss the most recent attacks on reproductive rights, which are proposing the implementation of the most oppressive restrictions since the early 20th century. To find out more about the impending abortion bans and how to participate in protests, donate to grassroots organizations, or become an abortion-clinic escort, CLICK HERE.
