The word guard makes one think of protection and safety but if you’re in the corrections system, you learn it’s anything but. You’re about to be released from prison soon, looking forward to your new life of freedom and then a guard decides to test you. To avoid confrontation and time added to your sentence, you choose to walk barefoot in the snow back to your housing unit.
