This episode was recorded in may however we're uploading today June 18, 2021. Juneteenth has officially been declared a federal holiday which is exciting news. As you all know, the united states gained independence on July 4, 1776 however, Black Americans were still enslaved at the time. It wasn't until June 19, 1865 that Texas freed the last group of enslaved people. So Juneteenth celebrates the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States.
Although this is a historic moment, African Americans still have a long way to go to gain equality in this country. In this episode, we discuss the impact of racial injustice, prejudice, and racial trauma on black people and talk about ways to thrive despite having a long road ahead for true reform.
