Upon listening to a podcast about Mary Anning, the famous fossil collector, I heard a familliar name: William Buckland.

I spoke about Buckland during my episode entitled: That Time The French King was Cannibalized. The story, probably untrue, is that Buckland was handed the mumified heart (or part of it) of King Louis XIV from France.

Buckland, being an extreme omnivore, promptly ate the heart. While the story may be false, Buckland’s real life is just as colorful. For one thing, he was the one who first realized that Dinosaurs may have once existed. For another, he pioneered the study of fossilized dinosaur feces (known today as corprolites).

Corprolites look nothing like this.
