You really do care about them, but can't place a face to a name. * Everyone feels awkward if you don't remember each other's names, it's going to be resolved if you get it out of the way. * Get the name out of the way before getting too far in, otherwise it seems rude to ask at the end of the conversation. Plus, you have the opportunity to use their name if you get it in the beginning. * Look for anyone around whose name you DO know to introduce the unknown named person to. It is the responsibility of the friend to then ask the name of the unknown. * If you want an easy cop out to remind someone of your name, tell a story when you were talking to yourself and mention your name out loud as you tell the story. * If you want to have an excuse to know people at an event, be the "name tag person," asking if people are interested in having a name tag to give people an easy cop out. * People trust you more if you introduce yourself to them, it shows you have nothing to hide, you're not being a creeper, and you're confident. * Have a smile and laugh. Keep things informal, have fun. * People respond to you energy. * Recognize the "point of no return" in the conversation if the energies aren't matching. * Recognizing what people respond to in the conversation. * If you have a light-hearted and good vibes, then people are more likely to respond to you. * It's easier to leave a slow conversation if you do have high energy because it's in character. * No matter how prepared you are, you still cannot control the outside environment. * Plan your work then work your plan, sharpen your axe just enough to make it through the next couple swings. * It's important to make mistakes. * Do not be apprehensive where you have made a mistake before, go for it! * #GSD * "You can't steer a parked car" - People want to associate with those who are moving. * You can control your attitude, and what is your brand saying? * Not everyone will be on your team but you do have cheerleaders if you look for them. * Your perception drives your action. * How you think other people view you is one of the biggest motivators. * We are all people and at the end of the day have personal lives and are real humans. * No one has died from an awkward conversation...yet. * To start making waves, find your niche and start building 'street cred' by showing up. * Just show up and get your face out there, even if you're not the leader. * Build trust by announcing that you'll be somewhere and follow through. * Ask to do things in your organization, doesn't matter how small. Volunteer your time or talents to build consistency. * Bring the S to the O in the SWOT analysis * Make your side hustle volunteering and showing your face. Don't be a bum. It doesn't always have to be about making money because people will see your work ethic and trust you with bigger opportunities. * Show a willingness to learn especially when you're outside your comfort zone. People will help you succeed. * People don't care if you're a hardworking failure at first, as long as you're consistent and open to learning. * Focus on progress, not perfection. * Take more steps forward to offset any backstepping. * Enjoy your highs, learn from your lows. * www.sockfancy.com * Wear Nike's in case you need to BALL OUT * Be cool and have fun! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/intros/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/intros/support
