Inside Ukraine: The Human Spirit Amidst War: Special Guest: Valentyna Krykun: Ukrainian Academic, and Volunteer for the Local Self-Defense Forces

In this episode, Host Jason Zuk is joined by Guest Co-Host Dr. Sergei Borysov as they welcome Special Guest Valentyna Krykun to the show. Valentyna is a Ukrainian Academic and Volunteer for the Local Self-Defense Forces for her local community. Our guest is a thirty year resident of Pereyaslav, a city near Kyiv (the capital of Ukraine). She works as the Head of The International Relations Office at her university and she is also Lecturer of the Department of Foreign Philology, Translation, and Methods of Teaching at Hryhorii Skovoroda University (in Pereiaslav). From the start of the War, Valentyna has volunteered as a part of the local self-defense formation to protect Ukraine from Russian Aggression.

Valentyna shares her experiences and the drastic changes in her life and community since the onset of the Russian-Ukrainian War. Despite immense challenges, she reflects on the increased unity within her community, the hardships of teaching during wartime, and her personal struggles with the invasion. The discussion also delves into the complex feelings towards the Russian language and culture, the mental health impact of the conflict, and the importance of international support for Ukraine. Valentyna passionately details her volunteer work in local defense formations and combating misinformation, offering a firsthand account of resilience and hope amidst ongoing adversity.
