Temporary shared custody is one of the hardest parts of divorce. Both parents experience deep emotions when it comes to their children, making this transition challenging but crucial. It's a time of significant change, and embracing temporary shared parenting can ultimately benefit everyone involved. For the primary parent, adjusting to not being with the kids all the time can be a struggle. They might initially believe that the other parent isn't capable of taking care of the children simply because they haven't had the opportunity before. However, seeing how the other parent engages with the kids can provide valuable insights into co-parenting and the effectiveness of a temporary parenting plan. This period of adjustment also offers the primary parent some 'free time,' which can be used for self-care and personal growth.

For the primary income earner, experiencing the custody schedule they are fighting for can be eye-opening. They might discover that their work schedule needs adjusting or that they enjoy the increased time with their children and make it a priority. On the other hand, they might realize that sustaining such an arrangement is not feasible due to work or travel obligations. For the kids, spending time alone with each parent helps them see that different parenting styles are not necessarily bad, just different. This transition allows everyone to step out of denial and start experiencing life differently, even while still living under the same roof. Understanding the dynamics of temporary shared custody can lead to a more harmonious co-parenting experience and better outcomes for the entire family.
