The Run: Deadpool 1-33, -1, 0, Daredevil/ Deadpool Annual '97, Deadpool and Death Annual '98, and Baby's First Deadpool Book
In this episode Mara and Matt look at the run that made The Merc with the Mouth who he is today, Joe Kelly's Deadpool. What surprised us the most is how many of the characteristics associated with Deadpool, and are attributed to this run, are downplayed and how subtle, dark and complicated Kelly's character work actually is. It's hard to be both enduring and disturbing, but Kelly finds a way to balance it masterfully. Along with art and subtext that was a highlight during one of the more lackluster periods on Marvel's publishing history, Kelly's Deadpool is an excellent example of what our show is about.
Be sure to join us next time as we are joined by Talking Comics' co-host and Meganerd Media's Melissa Megan as we look at the cult classic and satirical darling: Warren Ellis and Stuart Immonen's Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. (Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. 1-12)
Intro Song: "Ring My Bell" by Anita Ward
