Julianne Goldmark launched Emi Jay in 2009, and it has since become the must-have hair accessory brand. Celebs like Kim Kardashian, Hailey Bieber, Emma Chamberlain, and Oprah rock Emi Jay clips, hair ties, and hair bands. All of us here at Mayfair are obsessed with the brand, so of course I had to ask Julianne about her favorite ways to style The Big Effing Clip, what’s coming up next for the brand, and how she’s created a whole story and lifestyle around Emi Jay. She shares the biggest hurdles that the brand has had to overcome and her top tips for having a successful collaboration. We also discuss her hiring philosophy and process, how she’s learned to delegate work, and what it was like doing a rebranding during the height of the pandemic.

Today, Julianne and I talk about:

  • The two eras of Emi Jay
  • Her formula for successful product drops
  • The responsibility she feels as a boss
  • Relinquishing control and trusting your team
  • Expanding into categories like swim, fashion, and beauty
  • Why storytelling is so important for brand identity
  • The best advice that she’s every received
  • What it’s like working with her mom

“I've had to take a step back and tell myself that I obviously can't be everywhere at one time and wear every single hat.” #MAYFAIRWORLD
