• The world's first photo of a white giant panda was released on May 26. This was taken by a field infrared-triggerred camera （camera traps）in the Wolong National Nature Reserve in Sichuan province in mid-April.

这只熊猫全身都是白色，眼睛为红色。这是一只白化个体，从体型判断，年龄大概在1—2岁左右。

北京大学生命科学学院李晟研究员介绍，“白化”现象在脊椎动物各类群中广泛存在，但均较为罕见，通常是由于基因突变导致动物体内无法正常合成黑色素，从而在外部形态上呈白色、黄白色或浅黄色。

It is usually caused by the gene mutation that prevents the normal synthesis of melanin in the animal body, resulting in the appearance of white, yellowish white or light yellow.
