On this week's episode of Mental Health Hangouts, Lily and Seamus talk about a weird "Make America Sober Again" poster in the subway, the Supreme Court wedding cake case, and revenge porn. Then they discuss the opioid epidemic with Chris Heide, a writer, recipient of the Kaplan Award for Narrative Journalism, and editor-in-chief of Chosen Magazine. Chris wanted to add: “A major point of the stigma surrounding addiction is the misconception that addiction is somehow a moral failing or a result of poor choices. Addiction is a medically defined disease, where in the addict or alcoholic loses all ability to chose taking another drink or hit. Their brains tell them that they need drugs and alcohol to survive.”
