“Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.” - Proverbs 25:15 A common Christian cliché is to never pray for patience. Why? Because the best way to learn patience is to be brought though a situation that demands it out of you! And who wants to go through that? At Morello Hills we are going through the character traits known as the fruit of the Spirit. As we are on patience this week I was reminded that a synonym for patience is “long-suffering” and in fact, this might be a better way to translate this Greek word in the New Testament. “Long-suffering” – Why am I more likely to consider praying for patience than long-suffering? Because I would much rather do “short-suffering”! Yet many of life’s situations and the tensions in our relationships are not resolved quickly – we do need the ability to be long-sufferers. Our message will focus on finding love, joy and peace as we go through suffering that is taking longer than we expected.
