In part 2 of our discussion with Dr. Rebecca Richey, we talk about the impact of going undiagnosed, whether by chance or by choice. We focus on treatment options, including medication and holistic options, and Dr. Richey explains how individualized treatment can be for women with ADHD, and that a multi-modal approach works best. Dr. Richey explains the impact that peri-menopause and menopause have on women with ADHD, breaking down the hormonal interaction with the brain.

  1. What happens when a woman does not get diagnosed with ADHD but still has issues with attention and focus? Dr. Richey shares the overlap in ADHD symptoms with other diagnoses.
  2. We discuss the casualties of not being identified as having ADHD—whether missed opportunities, diminished academic/career success, anxiety, or nervous system impact.
  3. Getting an ADHD diagnosis can help make everything else make sense, and it gives you permission to be the type of mom that you are.
  4. Normalize being a neurodivergent mom and find your people so you can walk into the world proudly and with support.
  5. Dr. Richey breaks down different treatment options for women with ADHD, and recommends a "multi-modal" approach.
  6. Treatment efficacy varies among women, so you may need to do some trial and error to see what works best for you, including modifying nutrition and exercise, doing body work, trying therapy and medication, etc. Every woman is different.
  7. We dip our toes into the impact of peri-menopause and ADHD.
