In a new move for Marvel Studios, the latest Thunderbolts* teaser had title cards between shots of the movie showcasing all of the talent behind the film that people might recognize. Shots of actors were intercut with cards citing their acting credits outside of the MCU aynd behind-the-camera credit for writing, directing, composing, cinematography, and editing, was also featured. Projects mentioned by these credits include Midsommar, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Beef, The Green Knight, and A Different Man, as well as a couple of others. Director Jake Schreier cited a goal given by Kevin Feige to make this film different and this seems to be one of the ways Schreier is attempting to do so. Consider yourself warned and bear in mind the images in question have not been officially released and are in their very nature, conceptual, so everything discussed should be considered with a healthy amount of scrutiny and discernment. On the same coin, if the leaks are to be taken seriously, the pieces potentially reveal major plot points and crucial information. Potential spoilers in 3, 2, 1… HBO celebrated and announced the commencing of production on its Lanterns series last week by revealing our first look at stars Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler, as Jon Stewart and Hal Jordan, respectively. The image showcases our heroes not adorned in the typical attire befitting a Green Lantern, but in regular clothing and walking down an empty road and looking a little worse for wear. Though sources say these projects were never officially greenlit, Deadline reports that Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc. are not currently being developed. This is mostly being attributed to Marvel’s shift to traditionally-run television shows. But in confirmed news, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Jon Bernthal will star in a Marvel Studios Special Presentation featuring The Punisher that will air in 2026 alongside the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. On Monday we were treated to the surprise drop of the full Andor season 2 trailer from Lucasfilm. In a very un-Star Wars-like fashion, the high octane footage is set to The Revolution Starts Now by Steve Earle and reminds viewers of how acclaimed the first season was. The drop shared more interesting news; the 12-episode season will be dropped in increments of three episodes at a time for four weeks. Phew! DC’s duo of James Gunn and Peter Safran took time to have a press event last Friday where they updated us, the people, on where things are going with DC Studios. It’s been just over two years since the big film and television overhaul with DC was announced, with Gunn and Safran taking control of the franchise. Gunn reiterated their desire to bring new stories to life with these characters. The updates included the following: Supergirl is halfway through production, Lanterns began production last week, Clayface will be directed by James Watkins and is eyeing a fall 2026 release, Sgt. Rock, still being directed by Luca Guadagnino, no longer has Daniel Craig attached and is looking for its new star, and the animated Robin movie, Dynamic Duo, is in pre-production. Lastly and perhaps most importantly, Gunn had some comments on The Brave and The Bold that some are taking as confirmation that Robert Pattinson will not be the DCU’s Batman, with the filmmaker saying,“It's certainly not the plan.” And Safran added, “And we love him, but we've got to introduce a Batman into the DCU. That's imperative. And so that's the plan with The Brave and the Bold.” The James Bond movie franchise is going through a shake up, with Amazon MGM Studios and Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli forming a new joint venture to house the movie property’s intellectual property rights. Under the terms of the agreement, Amazon MGM Studios will gain creative control of the James Bond franchise, while Wilson and Broccoli will remain co-owners of the 60-year-old property. In 2022, Amazon acquired MGM. Since the MGM acquisition, Amazon has held rights to distribute all of the James Bond films, and following completion of the joint venture transaction will control the creative on future productions. Season two of The Last of Us finally has a premiere date. The seven-episode season of the drama will debut April 13 on HBO. That means the season will complete its run in late May, just under the wire for Emmy eligibility this year. Jack O'Connell and Delroy Lindo, who will both star in Ryan Coolger's upcoming film Sinners, have joined the cast of Legendary's upcoming Monsterverse sequel to Godzilla x Kong. Last Wednesday, Universal shared the first teaser trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth. The new Jurassic film features a stacked cast of Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, and Rupert Friend. The newest dinosaur flick in the epic franchise arrives July 2 among other blockbusters that month, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Superman. Directed by Gareth Edwards, the film takes place five years after the storyline of Jurassic World Dominion and the creators are citing Michael Crichton’s original book as providing a lot of plot inspiration. A couple of Marvel stories are making the rounds after being revealed on podcasts recently. Firstly, actor Colman Domingo verified that he did have conversations with Marvel executives, though only after rumors of him playing Kang the Conqueror were circulating. Domingo emphasized that he wants a role that will allow him to “build something from the ground up” and that the Kang rumors were never a conversation from his point of view. Since last week, The Hollywood Reporter has also finally revealed that the total budget of the film is significantly less than previously thought - coming in at around $180 million dollars. Switching to the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Benedict Cumberbatch made some headlines after revealing in an interview with Variety that Doctor Strange will not be in Avengers: Doomsday. Cumberbatch cited the reason being Strange’s character “not aligning with this part of the story,” and also let loose that the Master of the Mystic Arts will be in “a lot” of Avengers: Secret Wars. In typical James Gunn fashion, the director and DC Studios co-chair gave us a first look at Milly Alcock’s Supergirl in a still photo he released on social media last week. As a post-holiday treat, Marvel Animation dropped its first look at Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, premiering in January. The short teaser trailer gives us a good look at the Hudson Thames-voiced Peter Parker and a glimpse of Norman Osborn, who is voiced by Colman Domingo. Other voice talent for the show features Hugh Dancy, Charlie Cox, and Vincent D’Onofrio. If you enjoyed diving back into the dark, broody, Gotham of Matt Reeves Batman universe during The Penguin, get ready to be disappointed. It was announced that The Batman II has been pushed from its 2026 release date to October 1, 2027. The film is set to begin production in the last half of 2025 and DC co-chief James Gunn cited Reeves working to perfect the script as some of the reason for delay. The October 2, 2026 date formerly held by The Batman II is being taken by a film coming from The Revenant director Alejandro González Iñárritu and Tom Cruise. The triumph of the sequel movies continues at the box office this holiday season with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 having a very successful opening before Christmas to a $62 million domestic debut and has now climbed to a worldwide total of $159.5 million. Though Disney’s prequel, Mufasa: The Lion King, fell short of opening projections, the holiday season has been kind to the film as it currently holds a $221.7 million global box office. Wicked and Moana 2 still hold the overall crowns at the box office and Matt Eggers’ Nosferatu, which debuted on Christmas Day, is sitting quietly but solidly at $26 million domestically for three days. The first trailer for A24 dark comedy Death of a Unicorn has been released. The film, written and directed by Alex Scharfman in his directorial debut, stars Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, and hits theaters in the spring of 2025. Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra recently told the Los Angeles Times that Kraven the Hunter is “probably the worst launch we had” in the nearly eight years he’s been at the studio, adding: “I still don’t understand, because the film is not a bad film." Vinciquerra also blamed the press for the bombing of Madame Web. Paramount+ has renewed the Jeremy Renner-led series Mayor of Kingstown for a fourth season. Sony has announced that the 28 Years Later sequel titled 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple directed by Nia Decosta will hit theaters on January 16, 2026. The movie is the second installment in Danny Boyle and Alex Garland‘s planned zombie apocalypse follow up trilogy. Jared Leto will officially play villain Skeletor in the upcoming live action Masters of the Universe from Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Evil Dead Rise filmmaker Lee Cronin is writing and directing a new take on The Mummy for New Line.
