Jump in for this conversation about the struggles faced by black women in the ADHD community. I'm joined by my guest Abigail Agyei - an award-winning policy advisor, diversity, equity and inclusion champion and neurodiversity advocate. We talk about her personal experiences as a black woman with ADHD and she offers some great resources for others in the community.
Guest:
Abigail Agyei is the winner of 2020 Civil Service Rising Star Award for her dedication to public service making significant impact to communities. She has over eight years’ experience working with community groups and experience supporting voluntary and under-served groups. She is incredibly passionate about amplifying the voices of intersectional identities and how their lived experiences are shaped in the world and also has have ADHD and dyspraxia. (Receiving her official late diagnosis last year at 30 years old).
Abigail is particularly passionate about advocating and bringing more awareness around ADHD and neurodiversity in Black Women as Black Women are often misdiagnosed, and underdiagnosed. Abigail was recently chosen to be part of the UK’s inaugural LinkedIn Accelerator Programme and started a LinkedIn Live Series called ‘As An ADHDer’ Series’ where she speaks to a range of Black Women and allies who are ADHD advocates and experts about a range of topics to provide support, awareness and advise on ADHD through an intersectional lens. Topics have covered the ADHD diagnosis journey, culturally competent support for Black Children and families with ADHD, coaching for Black Women with ADHD and ADHD and money. Abigail recently did a Tedx Talk on ADHD in Black Women and has been awarded MBE by Her Majesty The Queen in 2022 New Year British Honours for Public and Community Services.
