Her name is Nikia Squire, but she is also known as Freshie. In high school, she earned this nickname as a freshman, and it’s stuck with her ever since. She likes the term Freshie because it is more appealing than freshman, and it represents the idea that we are continuously learning and evolving throughout our lives. Her passion for writing began in 2006 when she started making music. However, it wasn’t until 2012 that she started to take writing more seriously. She aspired to pursue a degree in Creative Writing in college, but she struggled with the strict guidelines and regulations that came with the territory. It felt restrictive and limited her creativity, which led her to pursue other areas of study. Instead, she chose to study Relational Communication, which allowed her to explore other forms of expression while still giving her the opportunity to write.
