Succeeding in neurodiverse families and parenting

On this episode of the Openhearted Podcast, we are excited to bring you episode #6 ~ Succeeding in Neurodiverse Families and Parenting.
We are lucky to have special guests Ali & Grant Strachan.
Ali Strachan is a freelance arts copywriter and president of Assorted Grains Inc – an artist-run not for profit in Logan.
Almost branding herself as the awkward copywriter, it wasn’t until years later that she realised there’s probably an underlying reason for her struggle with people skills and social anxiety. Autism.
She and her husband, Grant, are no strangers to neurodiversity, and are parents to an art-loving trans teen with ADD and musically talented daughter.
And with a supportive neuro-fascinating family behind them, Ali and Grant are finding their groove with juggling freelance and parenting life.
Question we plan to ask:
- Tell us a little bit about your individual backgrounds
- Tell us a little bit about your NFP “Assorted Grains”
- Tell us a little bit about your family.
- As a neurodiverse family in the truest sense of the word (ASD, ADHD, Neurotypical & Transgender), how do you make your family work?
- For those of us who are a little older here, do you think that life (and especially cool) has gotten a little better/more accepting for neurodiverse kids than it was for us growing up?
- What advice do you give your kids in dealing with being “different”?
- How do you find/navigate your relationship as a neurodiverse couple?
- How do you find running a not for profit as neurodiverse leaders?
- What draws you to the arts? Any reasons to do with neurodiversity at all?
