I love coffee. I want a hot cup of coffee when I get up in the morning. But when I was pregnant, I didn’t want coffee. I still wanted the caffeine though. If you are like that, then don’t resort to soda. All sugar can lead to gestational diabetes and weight gain. Diet soda has aspartame and can lead to other health concerns. But we are talking about coffee today.

So, you are pregnant, and you are wondering how much coffee you can drink.

It is recommended that you not drink more than 200 mg of caffeine per day. Two cups of coffee have 190 mg of caffeine. So, your intake should not be more than about two cups or 16 ounces.

Think about the size cup of coffee you drink out of each day. Now compare it to a measuring cup. Maybe you thought it was only a cup of coffee but it is more like two cups of coffee.

Also, you want to be sure you are keeping track of how much sugar you are consuming with your coffee. Try to stay away from frappuccinos, lattes, and other added sugar.

When I say coffee, I mean plain coffee. It is easy to forget that a shot of espresso has a lot more concentrated caffeine.

Last, don’t forget to drink water. I recommend that you drink 60 - 100 ounces of water per day as a baseline. Get a water bottle that you love. Fill it up, drink it, and fill it up again. If you drink coffee then think about how it will cause you to pee more.

So, you need to drink more water to prevent bladder and kidney infections and also replenish the amniotic fluid.
