I interviewed Yesenia (Jess), creator of Mama of Both Worlds. She is your go to woman when you are wondering how to be a boss at pregnancy and work. I asked Jess how she was pregnant, working, and still on top of things. With her first pregnancy she was working as a staff attorney. She worked until a week before her due date.

She said that it was exhausting, her feet were hurting, but she had to keep going: “It is something many of us have to endure.” She pushed through, and then she was able to enjoy her time with her son.

However, in her second pregnancy she was her own boss. She took the reigns and decided her own schedule. She said that she was able to take time to prepare and wean out of the work mode before her second son arrived.

Becoming a mom the first time motivated Jess to step out, start her own business, and become her own boss. She had to go back to work ten weeks after her first son was born, and this pushed her out of her box to decide to start her own business.

She finally decided that she couldn’t work for someone else anymore. She began dreaming of different possibilities. She had close friends and relatives to watch her son, but she wanted to be home with her son.

Jess still has to take time to work on her own. Her children go to pre-k and family when she has to work, but her weeks are much shorter than they were when she was working for someone else. She also has her husband working with her in her business. She is able to balance time with her husband, and this makes her business and homelife balance out.

Her tip to other mamas is this: “Ask yourself some questions, ‘Is my job flexible? Can I move to another position? Am I passionate about what I am doing?’” As you answer these questions, then you will know if you need to brainstorm other possibilities for work to balance with motherhood.

For you mama, you can be passionate about what you do. It is time to dig deep, be creative, and find a way to do your job and be an amazing mother.
