In this week’s solo episode John explains the power found in Mastermind groups. He defines what a mastermind is. And he recounts the history of the development of the Mastermind in 1939 which is attributed to Napoleon Hill, who wrote Think and Grow Rich.

John tells of the Mastermind sessions he had as a chief medical officer (CMO) of a community-based hospital during which members of his team would take turns taking the “hot seat” in order to help overcome a challenge or solve a problem that they were facing.

John started hosting mastermind sessions with his podcast listeners and email subscribers three years ago. And he currently has two groups going which follow his 10-minute mastermind process.

Members of his masterminds have experienced great success in selecting, pursuing, and landing a nonclinical jobs.

There are several benefits to participating in a Mastermind:

  • a source of encouragement and support,
  • accountability,
  • networking opportunities, and
  • brainstorming

And they've been shown to help entrepreneurs and business leaders advance their careers and improve the performance of their organizations.

John believes that everybody should participate in a mastermind if they are looking to accelerate the progress of their success in any endeavor.

In Episode 267 he shares a link to a free worksheet that will help listeners develop their own mastermind group. And he invites listeners to join one of his if they do not wish to start one of their own.
