In this episode of the Plant-Based Canada Podcast we chat with Lee Satveit, BA, JD -- a writer and an advocate for a whole foods, plant-based diet. He is a former corporate executive, human rights lawyer, and litigator whose stressful career and poor diet lead to obesity.
After a heart attack at age 41, Lee radically changed his diet, eliminating his type 2 diabetes, losing more than 80 pounds. He now seeks to demystify how people can affect and maintain the same changes he made. Lee believes if he can do it, anyone can.
Lee uses social media accounts like twitter where you can find him under the handle @SilverbackDiet, and provides advice on how to lose weight. He plans to publish a career guide for law students and undergraduate students, as well as a compilation of tips and tricks for weight loss with a focus on keeping food flavorful -- and satiating – in addition to being healthy.
In this episode we discuss:

  • Lee's switch to a whole foods, plant-based diet as a method to improve his health
  • His weight loss, and improved BMI, A1C, and cholesterol levels
  • How he navigated social life after making the change
  • Reading nutrition labels and meal prepping
  • Tips and tricks on sticking to a weight loss plan including caloric density and macro tracking
