In this episode, we review two Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio films. First, we discuss the 2004 film, “The Aviator.” Next, we discuss the 2013 film, “The Wolf of Wall Street.”
The Aviator is based on the 1993 non-fiction book Howard Hughes: The Secret Life by Charles Higham. The film depicts the life of Howard Hughes, an aviation pioneer and director of Hell's Angels. The film portrays his life from 1927–1947 during which time Hughes became a successful film producer and an aviation magnate while simultaneously growing more unstable due to severe obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD).
The Wolf of Wall Street is a 2013 American biographical black comedy crime film directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Terence Winter, based on the memoir of the same name by Jordan Belfort. It recounts Belfort's perspective on his career as a stockbroker in New York City and how his firm, Stratton Oakmont, engaged in rampant corruption and fraud on Wall Street, which ultimately led to his downfall.
