In today's chapters, Mary and Charles Musgrove complain to Anne, the Crofts move in to Kellynch Hall, we learn the tale of Poor Richard, Lil C gets injured, and Captain Wentworth comes to visit. Topics discussed include the ranks of British nobility, our high school math classes, internal panic, Wentworth's band of misfit boys, and Wentworth's intentions to marry.

Glossary of Terms and Phrases:

Gadding (v): go around from one place to another, in the pursuit of pleasure or entertainment.

Glossary of People, Places, and Things: Kesha, Am I Okay?, Dakota Johnson, The Notebook, happier, Arrested Development, Schitt's Creek, Jojo Siwa

Patron Study Questions:

Emily: Anne has very few confidantes in the book so far - how does that change how we learn about her and her hopes?

Kat: This book is often described as Austen's more deep or perhaps more serious work, but it is also incredibly funny! What do you think about the balance between the intense pining and heartache and humour in these chapters? We don’t have many sassy/witty lines like the ones in P&P, instead we have Jane Austen in her rocking chair painting a hilarious picture for us and I love it!

Ghenet: First impressions of Captain Wentworth?

Becca's Study Questions: Topics discussed include how Jane teaches us about Anne, the role of the Crofts, the last eight years, what Wentworth wants, and whether Anne is of feeble character.

Funniest Quote: One of the least agreeable circumstances of her residence there was her being treated with too much confidence by all parties, and being too much in the secret of the complaints of each house. Known to have some influence with her sister, she was continually requested, or at least receiving hints to exert it, beyond what was practicable. “I wish you could persuade Mary not to be always fancying herself ill,” was Charles’s language; and, in an unhappy mood, thus spoke Mary: “I do believe if Charles were to see me dying, he would not think there was anything the matter with me. I am sure, Anne, if you would, you might persuade him that I really am very ill—a great deal worse than I ever own.”

Questions Moving Forward: Does Captain Wentworth want to marry a Musgrove daughter?

Who wins the chapters? Captain Wentworth
