The difference between self defense and protection is disrupting something as it's happening, and stopping something before it begins. You do not need to defend yourself if nobody's attacking you.

Susie believes we do this in a variety of ways. We accomplish this by purposefully being unattractive, or by gaining a lot of weight because we believe men are less likely to attack us in these states.

The most common reason why women stay in domestic violence situations is that the only alternative is homelessness, where the threat of rape is even greater.
