Gaslighting: it’s everywhere these days. In the media, on the lips of clients in therapy, in workplace discussions on Slack or near the watercooler. But what does it really mean to be gaslit, and does it mean that the gas lighter is a narcissist?
Here’s where psychologist Robin Stern can help. Dr. Stern is the co-founder and associate director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. She is a licensed psychoanalyst with 30 years of experience treating individuals, couples and families. She lives in NYC. She is here today to discuss her new book, The Gaslight Effect: A Recovery Guide. The Gaslight Effect helps readers identify if they are part of a pattern of emotional abuse in any type of relationship, and provides tools to stop the abuse and move on with their life.
On this episode of the Psychology Talk Podcast, Dr. Stern discusses the concepts in her book, and how to help discern if you are being gaslit, the stages of the Gaslight Effect, and ways to stop being manipulated, and get on with your life.
